Water Lilies, Green Reflection, 1914-17 by Claude Monet

This week the theme for the Year of Jewelry Project is  the painting (paintings) of Claude Monet- Water Lilies.

Since Monet painted the subject over 250 times, there was a lot of room for interpretation on this one!

I chose one of the more green paintings. The Water Lilies, green reflection 1914-1917. This is a beautiful painting that was done when Monet's eyesight was failing, and the contrast is greater than some of his other paintings of this pond.
Maybe that is why I like it so much!

I am still stuck on the Cellini stitch, which is a spiral pattern of the Peyote stitch. I love it since it works up fast and gives an undulating effect to the piece you are working.

The Cellini stitch is made from 15/0 green luster; 15/0 medium blue clear; 11/0 black luster hex shape, 10/0 green apple/silver lined; 6/o green luster.

The 'chain' part of the necklace is made from varying shapes and colors of crystal, glass and silver Mykonos beads. They include pink, purple, teal, turquoise, green, black, clear/silver, and variances of these colors with silver or black lining, and luster.

The pendant is bought. I have had it for quite a few years, and started a necklace with it a few years ago with mainly flat peyote stitch in 15/0 green apple. I didn't like how it was turning out, so I took it apart this week, quite literally cut it apart... and started over again.

I have always thought of the pendant as looking like a water lily... but have been reminded over and over that it is NOT a water lily.... I know this.

This has been a wonderful project to work on. I love Monet, and I love this necklace!

2017 Year of Jewelry Project - Week 1-- Self Portrait

Wow! can you believe that 2017 is already here?

My New Year's resolution is to make some time for things I want to do, as well as getting organized to be able to do that... One of the top "to do" list items is to organize myself to be able to post for the Year of Jewelry Project each week. Last year, I took a new job teaching at the College in the GED department... and was overwhelmed by all the courses I needed to take, learning the software for the program, learning the testing for the program, and learning the rules and regulations for the local, state and government. It has been a challenge...

I worked all year on jewelry, but never took time to take photos of my work, let alone try to post it all.  Soooo...... I'm baaaaaaaaak... Trying to organize myself to the point that I can take photos easier, to take the time I need to, to sit down and post... and not neglect the other blogs that I have... which I have done for the past year or ... let's be serious... more than a year or two.

Soo... here is my first piece of the year, the "Self Portrait" for Week One.

This monotone piece is anything but monotonous! It is like me... it has depth!

The ribbons on each side are made in Peyote stitch out of 11/0 triangle beads. I love the way they lay when they are made into a ribbon. They are always different even if you use one pattern for many, no two will be alike.

The rest of the necklace is made of glass, crystal, metal, and even a piece of polished lava.  The necklace is held together by an "S" hook.
